Iranian Khorasan-Razavi TV Reports New Railway Project

Text of report by Iranian state-run provincial TV from Khorasan on 8 November

[Correspondent] Mashhad-Bojnurd-Gorgan railway project agreement was signed today in Mashhad in the presence of the governors- general of Khorasan-Razavi, North-Khorasan, Golestan Provinces and the representatives of the Iranian, Austrian and German consortium.

This 655-km-long railway line is being built by the joint venture of three Iranian, Austrian and German companies over a period of five years. The capital allocated to this project is 1,800,000,000 euros, 85 per cent of which comes from financial resources and the rest from the national credit.

[Governor-General of Khorasan-Razavi Mohammadizadeh - identified by caption] said: "[Brief loss of reception] - This railway will be effective in transportation of people coming to Mashhad for pilgrimage, transportation of goods and the regional development."

[The head of the German consortium, Peter Hartman - identified by caption; in English with Persian voice-over translation] said: "[Brief loss of reception] - this can result in a friendly cultural atmosphere between the two countries. With regard to the expertise we have in this field and with the cooperation of our Iranian partner, we will definitely be able to complete this project successfully."
