Britain Today: Rail Mishap Action Call
November 8, 2007
UNION leaders yesterday called for urgent action to improve safety on the railways after a maintenance vehicle ran “out of control” for seven miles.
The Rail Maritime and Transport union (RMT) said the incident on Sunday between Romford and Brentwood in Essex was the 12th rail “runaway” since an accident in Tebay, Cumbria, three years ago in which four workers were killed by a trailer.
The Rail Accident Investigation Branch is carrying out an investigation into Sunday’s incident.
