Southwest to Debut Nonstop to Philly
By Sean M. Wood, San Antonio Express-News
Nov. 9–Southwest Airlines is adding two flights for San Antonio in March, including a new destination.
The discount carrier is adding a daily nonstop to Philadelphia starting March 17.
It also is adding a nonstop flight to San Diego, Calif., beginning March 8. That will make two daily nonstops between the sainted cities.
“We look at the customer demand and what airports are doing well for us,” Southwest spokeswoman Brandy King said. “San Antonio is a great market.” King said customer demand and the passenger traffic on other airlines prompted Southwest to add those nonstops to San Antonio. Other cities getting additional nonstops from the carrier include Dallas, with flights from Love Field; San Francisco; Kansas City, Mo.; Las Vegas; Phoenix; and El Paso.
San Antonio International Airport spokesman David Hebert said the new routes are good for the airport.
“There’s an upside of being able to offer more nonstops to the San Antonio market,” he said.
Southwest is having a fare sales on the new routes it announced Thursday, including the new San Antonio to Philadelphia route. San Antonio to San Diego, however, is not included in that sale.
