AAA Texas: Weekend Gas Watch
Posted on: Friday, 9 November 2007, 03:00 CST
Retail gasoline prices inched closer to the three-dollar mark this week, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch. The statewide average climbed more than 14 cents to $2.94 a gallon as every city surveyed saw double digit increases.
The nationwide average has already broken the three-dollar mark where it currently stands at $3.06 a gallon, a 15-cent increase from last week.
"This is not good news for Texas motorists," said AAA Texas spokesperson Paul Flaningan. "Retail gasoline prices are poised to climb even higher in the weeks ahead as we enter the Thanksgiving holiday shopping and travel seasons. Oil Industry analysts say that with oil testing the $100 per barrel mark and the cold winter months ahead, increases in gasoline prices may not stabilize for the next six or seven weeks."
The Houston area has the state's cheapest gas at $2.86 -- despite a weekly increase of 14 cents. Amarillo has the state's highest average price at $3.07 a gallon -- up almost 16 cents from last week.
AAA Texas Fuel Savings Tip of the Week: Aggressive driving (speeding, rapid acceleration and braking) wastes gas. It can lower your gas mileage by 33 percent at highway speeds. Sensible driving is also safer for you and others, so you may save more than gas money.
