Endesa to Build Solar Power Plants in Andalucia

November 12, 2007

Spanish electric utility Endesa and Instituto Hispanco de Arroz have reportedly agreed to invest E1.2 billion to build new solar power plants in Andalucia.

The project is a joint venture between Endesa and food company Ebro Puleva. The four solar power plants will together produce 200MW of electricity.

The power plants are expected to be fully operational in 2011. Endesa will take charge of the development and construction of the facilities.

Spain is one of the signatories of the Kyoto Protocol and has been active in encouraging alternative energy sources.
