Global Energy Decisions Announces Release of Fuels Advisor Forecasts

Posted on: Monday, 12 November 2007, 12:00 CST

Global Energy Decisions, a Ventyx Company, today announced the release of its updated Global Energy Fuels Advisor forecast products covering natural gas, liquefied natural gas (LNG), coal and oil. Along with the companion Power Market Advisory Services covering wholesale electric markets, Global Energy forecast advisory products set the standard of the industry for independent, transparent, consistent analysis of energy market fundamentals and wholesale expected prices.

"Fuel price volatility, concerns over greenhouse gas emissions and numerous other factors have made the choice of fuels for future power generation more difficult than ever--and more important," said Gary L. Hunt, President, Global Energy Advisors. "Some markets already see supply shortages as early as 2008 or 2009 as excess power generation is absorbed by robust load growth in North American markets. There is also looming competition between fuels and technologies to win a place providing the next generation of power plants for U.S. energy markets. In this dynamic and challenging market, these newly released Global Energy Fuels Advisor forecast products will help energy investors and decision makers make better choices for meeting our energy needs in an environmentally responsible, cost-effective and reliable manner."

Among the newly released forecast products are the following:

The Natural Gas Reference Case covers North American natural gas market fundamentals and provides a long-term natural gas price forecast, which leverages Global Energy's Power Market Advisory Service fuel demand forecast and global LNG market model to form the most comprehensive forecast view of natural gas market fundamental available today. The analysis considers sector-by-sector gas demand for the United States and eight Canadian provinces and provides a monthly price forecast outlook for 36 key regional gas market hubs, including Henry Hub. The package includes basin-by-basin supply projections along with a stochastic volatility price forecast, an analysis of the impact of changing global LNG competition, and transportation infrastructure and pipeline gas flows through 2025. The forecast also includes WTI crude oil and product prices along with price confidence intervals.

The Coal Reference Case assesses the productive capacity of North America's coal basins and provides expected price and production forecasts and long-term analyses for 65 U.S. and imported thermal coal types, covering all coal consumed in the U.S. The analysis includes transportation by rail, water, truck and conveyor belt along with delivered coal prices to every U.S. power plant. The forecast considers current coal market dynamics along with the potential shifts in coal consumption resulting from rising coal plant utilization, new plant construction, tightening plant emissions and mine safety regulations, increasing mine production costs and evolving transportation options which are transforming the industry. The shift from lower sulfur coal to other coals as a result of new emission installations at many existing power plants is examined in detail, along with competing coal basin battleground areas.

Global Energy offers its Fuels Advisor services as strategic advisory services to stay on top of changes in fundamentals and fuel price volatility and as forecast reports that include detailed data appendices, hard and soft report copies. These new forecast products are available immediately from Global Energy Decisions and will be covered in detail in upcoming Webcasts over the next few weeks. Details on these Webcasts will follow in future announcements.
