Growth Rate of Energy-Intensive Industries in China Remains High Despite Shutdowns, an Industrial Info News Alert

Posted on: Tuesday, 13 November 2007, 06:00 CST

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas) -- China has continued to shut down struggling production in various industries in the first three quarters of 2007, a move promoting energy conservation and emissions reductions, Zhu Hongren, Vice Director of the National Development and Reform Commission's Economic Operation Bureau, said at a news conference on November 2, 2007.

In the first nine months of this year, China had shut down 10.4 million kilowatts of small thermal power units, reaching the year's target ahead of schedule; about 40,000 metric tons of production capacity for ferroalloy and 1 million metric tons of production capacity for calcium carbide were also shut down, respectively, accounting for 80% of the year's target.
