Tbilisi, 13 November: Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili’s visit to the USA might not take place, the US assistant secretary of state for Eurasian affairs, Matthew Bryza, told a news conference in Tbilisi on Tuesday [13 November].

“This visit was scheduled for December long ago and a meeting between the Georgian and US presidents was planned as part of the visit. But if Mikheil Saakashvili intends to run for president, in line with international practice, the visit will have to be reconsidered,” he said.

Bryza stressed that “President Bush will have to take the final decision”.
