VICTORIA - A video showing the last moments of a Polish immigrant who died after being shot by an RCMP Taser stun gun at Vancouver International Airport last month is finally being made public.
The recording by traveller Paul Pritchard of Victoria was in police hands until he threatened legal action and got it back last week.
The video purportedly shows Mounties shocking 40-year-old Robert Dziekanski with the Taser seconds after confronting the agitated traveller at Vancouver airport's international arrivals terminal, then kneeling on him.
Walter Kosteckyj, a Vancouver lawyer acting for the dead man's mother, says Zofia Cisowski is not planning to watch the video now but will view it eventually.
The video is scheduled to be given to the media this afternoon by Kosteckyj but is embargoed for broadcast until this evening.
Dziekanski was travelling to join his mother, who lives in Kamloops, B.C., when he ended up spending about 10 hours in the airport's arrivals area, where he became agitated, prompting a call to police that ended in his death.
