Imperium Renewables Executive Appointed to National Biodiesel Board
Imperium Renewables, a leading national producer of biodiesel, announced today that its vice president of sales and business development, Graham Noyes, has been elected to the board of Governors of the National Biodiesel Board (NBB).
One of Noyes’ first official duties as a board member was to present U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA) with the National Energy Leadership Award for her role in promoting biodiesel development. The award was in recognition of Cantwell’s efforts as a member of both the Senate Finance Committee and the Energy and Natural Resources Committee to promote the production and use of biodiesel. Cantwell accepted the award yesterday at the NBB Board meeting that is underway in Washington, DC.
“Sen. Cantwell has assumed a key leadership role in renewable fuels in Washington state and nationally,” said Noyes. “We regard her as a key supporter who thoroughly understands the issues and the importance of making biodiesel a part of our nation’s energy security plan. The National Biodiesel Board is proud to present her with this award.”
Imperium Renewables is a leading producer of biodiesel, and celebrated the opening of its Imperium Grays Harbor production facility. The facility, at a capacity of 100 million gallons per year, is the largest in the United States. Biodiesel is a clean burning alternative fuel made from oils derived from farm crops, and can be used in any conventional diesel engine. It can be used in pure form (100 percent biodiesel) or in a “blended” form, in which it replaces a percentage of petroleum diesel. A U.S. Department of Energy study determined that biodiesel reduces carbon dioxide emissions by more than 50 percent compared to petroleum diesel. Imperium’s high quality fuel meets or exceeds ASTM D-6751 specifications and is currently sold through a network of the large fuel distributors in the Pacific Northwest.
“We are proud to have Graham represent Imperium Renewables as well as the rest of the growing biodiesel industry as a member of the National Biodiesel Board,” said Martin Tobias, Imperium’s CEO. “His leadership and experience in the industry will be an asset to the board and its members.”
