The Greater Boston Food Bank Will Announce Final Tally of Turkeys Distributed for This Thanksgiving

WHAT:

 

On Tuesday, November 20th at 10:00 a.m., as the final turkeys of the season are being loaded into vans, station wagons, and trucks at its loading dock, The Greater Boston Food Bank will announce the success of its 2007 turkey drive, releasing the final tally of turkeys distributed to its network of more than 600 hunger-relief agencies in eastern Massachusetts.

 

On hand for the event will be this year’s most generous corporate donors including Stop & Shop, Turkeys4America, BJ’s Wholesale Club, and Perdue Farms, Inc. (represented by Turkeys4America). In addition, representatives of area food pantries and turkey drive recipients will also be present at the event.

 

The Food Bank’s 2007 goal was a record-breaking 36,000 turkeys. In addition to corporate donations, The Food Bank conducted an online turkey drive (www.gbfb.org) that kicked off on November 8th with its annual “Chain of Giving” event.

Catherine D’Amato, president and CEO of The Greater Boston Food Bank; James Murphy, regional vice president of sales, Stop & Shop Supermarket Company; Paul Bass, president, BJ’s Charitable Foundation; Dan and Betsy Nally of Turkeys4America; and Beth Chambers, director of community services, Catholic Charities Greater Boston. In addition, several turkey drive recipients will be on hand. And, member agencies loading up the season’s final orders will be available to talk to the media.
