Active Power Receives Multimillion Dollar Data Center Order
Posted on: Monday, 19 November 2007, 12:00 CST
Active Power, Inc. (NASDAQ:ACPW), inventor and manufacturer of the most energy-efficient critical power systems in the world, today announced an order from its OEM partner Caterpillar for eleven 900 kVA UPS (uninterruptible power supply) systems. The systems will be deployed at one of the largest collocation data center sites in the United States located in Culpeper County, Va. Working with Caterpillar, Active Power will deliver systems totaling eight megawatts to protect the data center site from electrical disturbances. UPS equipment for the multimillion dollar order is to begin delivery in the fourth quarter of this year.
"The flywheel based UPS system is ideal for the customer's operations and application, providing best in class solutions for meeting their mission critical requirements," said Jim Clishem, president and CEO. "The fact they chose to deploy this technology is further validation of the field proven technology that is inherent in these systems. Data center operators are increasingly turning to battery-free green technologies that provide an overall economic advantage."
Since its inception in 1992, Active Power has shipped more than 1,700 flywheels in systems with more than 37 million hours of runtime in the field. One of the UPS system's key differentiators is its ability to perform at efficiency levels up to 98 percent, resulting in lower energy consumption and a real bottom line impact to energy costs for data center operators.
