MARSHFIELD – Police have charged the driver of the car that hit a Daniel Webster Elementary School bus last week.

Police charged Riane Merritt, 18, of 4 Hollow Road, with driving to endanger, speeding and impeded operation of motor vehicle.

Police say Merritt was traveling west on Ocean Street around 3:45 p.m. Nov. 5, when she tried to turn into the Daniel Webster School and lost control of her car. Her car hit a school bus waiting to turn onto Ocean Street from Evergreen Drive.

Witnesses said Merritt was speeding and talking on her cell phone, police said.

Merritt was taken to South Shore Hospital with minor injuries and later released. The 36 children and driver on the bus were unhurt.
