Tokyo, Nov. 29 (Jiji Press)–Japanese trading company Marubeni Corp. said Thursday it has acquired a U.S. wood chip biomass- fueled power plant in Springfield, New Hampshire.

The value of the deal is estimated at around one billion yen.

The Springfield power plant, which has a maximum output capacity of 16,000 kilowatts, enough to cover the electricity needs of about 2,000 households, is the third U.S. biomass power plant for Marubeni. The company’s biomass-fueled electricity output capacity in North America has now increased to 50,000 kilowatts.

Marubeni also announced that it has won a turnkey contract for a project in Indonesia from the state-owned electricity firm to expand a thermal power plant in a suburb of Jakarta together with Alstom (Switzerland) Ltd.

The order is worth about 24 billion yen. The project is financed by yen loans through the Japan Bank for International Cooperation.END
