UAE’s fourth airline launches inaugural flight

ABU DHABI, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) — RAK Airways, the fourth airline of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), on Thursday launched its inaugural flight from its hub city Ras Al Khaimah in the country’snorth to the Bangladeshi capital Dhaka, Emirates News Agency reported.

RAK Airways will provide three flights to Dhaka a week while planning to increase the frequency of flights in the near future, according to the report.

“I am pleased to announce that RAK Airways has taken off on itsinaugural flight. We have been working very hard to achieve this milestone and are proud to contribute to the economic development of Ras Al Khaimah,” the airline’s chief operating officer Khalid Almeer was quoted as saying.

According to the report, RAK Airways plans to unveil more destinations within three to six months, which include cities in the Gulf region, India, Nepal and Tanzania.

The airline also plans to undertake transcontinental flights over the next two to three years with an aim to cover about 20 destinations within the Gulf, the South Asia, the Middle East and the East Africa.

Currently, there are three airlines in the UAE besides RAK Airways, namely the Abu Dhabi-based Etihad Airways, the Dubai-based Emirates Airline and the Sharjah-based Air Arabia.
