Tokyo, Dec. 3 (Jiji Press)–Japan’s Toshiba Corp. said Monday it has agreed with South Korea’s Samsung Electronics Co. to mutually license specifications and trademarks of their NAND flash memory chips.

Samsung will give specifications of its integrated OneNAND and Flex-OneNAND chips to Toshiba in exchange for Toshiba’s single- package LBA-NAND and mobilLBA-NAND chips.

The two makers will release products based on the licensed specifications next year.

The deal will give makers of portable music players and mobile phones to procure flash memory chips from a broader choice of suppliers.END
