ArcelorMittal Invests 500m Dollars to Boost Coal Production in Kazakhstan

Almaty, 7 December: The Arcelor-Mittal [steel group] is investing 500m dollars to increase coal production in Kazakhstan from 12m to 17m tonnes, the president of the board of directors of Arcelor- Mittal, Lakshmi Mittal, told journalists after a meeting with Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev on 6 December.

“We want to increase coal production in Karaganda from 12m to 17m tonnes,” he said. ” The investment programme will be about 400-500m dollars,” Mittal said.

“I also told (Nazarbayev) about our production of solid rolled steel and the fact that we were planning to double the production of this type of product and we would invest 200m dollars in this project,” Mittal said.
