The solution consists of the 7750 service router, 7450 Ethernet service switch, and 5620 service aware manager (SAM). The vendor will also provide network integration services, including network optimization, system support, and general project management services. Alcatel-Lucent will deploy its IP/MPLS portfolio in main cities across 14 states in Brazil.

“Brasil Telecom has a very large subscriber base therefore we need to deploy field-proven, scalable and highly reliable technology for our IP transformation,” said Dante Nardelli, director technical planning and technology at Brasil Telecom.

According to Digital Media, the new network will carry IP and Ethernet-based VPNs for enterprise customers. It will be used to aggregate internet, video-on-demand, and mobile backhaul traffic. The solution will also support triple play services allowing Brasil Telecom to offer advanced services.
