Verizon has launched high-definition video-on-demand in many of its FiOS TV markets in the US.

High-definition video-on-demand (HD VOD) is now available over the FiOS TV systems in Richmond and Virginia Beach, Virginia; Tampa, Florida; Fort Wayne, Indiana; and Pittsburgh. It will soon be available to the FiOS systems in the Washington, D.C., metro area, Massachusetts and Rhode Island; and to Verizon’s remaining FiOS TV markets next year.

Verizon’s initial HD VOD offering contains around 75 HD titles including a mix of free programs and recently released blockbuster movies. Free HD titles run the gamut from MTV music videos to shows from Wealth TV and Golfweek Magazine.

Shawn Strickland, vice president of video solutions at Verizon, said: “We’re delivering HD on demand with the same amazing picture quality that customers expect from FiOS TV – and with the promise of more HD programming in 2008.”
