Tampa Electric Makes Free Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs Available for Customers
Posted on: Friday, 14 December 2007, 09:00 CST
As part of its launch of a new lineup of conservation programs, Tampa Electric is making a free pack of eight compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulbs available to any customer who participates in the company's free Home Energy Audit.
When a customer signs up for a free Home Energy Audit, an energy analyst gathers information about the customer's home and how lifestyle affects energy use. The analyst identifies major energy consumption concerns and recommends steps that can be taken to help lower the home's energy bill. This audit is one of three free energy audits; along with the Online Home Energy Audit and Telephone Audit that Tampa Electric has developed (the Telephone Audit will be available in the first quarter of 2008).
"The CFL promotion is an important one for Tampa Electric but even more important for our customers," said Jackie Perrone, manager, Energy Management Services. "Saving energy is a community-wide effort, and we think this is the perfect way to motivate our customers to start thinking more about saving energy overall. Customers can immediately take advantage of energy savings just by installing these bulbs."
Some facts about the benefits of CFLs over standard incandescent bulbs:
They save you about $30 in electricity costs over each bulb's lifetime.
CFLs use 75 percent less energy.
They produce about 75 percent less heat.
Also, by changing eight 60-watt incandescent light bulbs to 13-watt Energy Star-qualified CFLs, over the bulbs' lifetime, customers can save:
The energy to run a full-size refrigerator for over 15 months.
Enough energy to operate about eight computers for one year.
An amount of energy equivalent to burning a ton of coal.
