Exports of Madagascar’s mining products estimated at 50 million USD

ANTANANARIVO, Dec. 15 (Xinhua) – Madagascar’s Exports of mining products have been estimated to amount to 50 million U.S. dollars this year.

General Secretary of the Ministry of Energy and Mines Patrick Razakamananifidy announced this here on Friday during the Day of Gemmology.

Exports of Madagascar’s mining products has seen a marked improvement compared to the previous years, the French-language daily, Midi, reported here on Saturday.

The promotion of processed stones now reigns with the development of the activities of the Gemmological Institute of Madagascar (GIM), according to the report.

Created in 2003 under the Ministry of Energy and Mines, the institute has trained over 330 stonecutters and about 90 certifiedgemmologists.

GIM has planned to establish partnership with foreign investors,Razakamananifidy told the media.
