SunEdison Activates Alamosa Solar Plant
Posted on: Wednesday, 19 December 2007, 06:00 CST
Solar energy services provider SunEdison has announced the activation of the 8.22MW Alamosa photovoltaic solar plant ahead of its scheduled completion date.
The firm claims that the facility is the largest solar photovoltaic (PV) plant in the US supporting substation loads for a major public utility. The solar plant was financed, built and will be maintained by SunEdison, under a solar power services agreement.
Under this agreement, Xcel Energy will buy renewable energy credits and the solar power generated by the Alamosa plant for 20 years. The facility will generate approximately 17,000MWh annually, delivering enough clean energy to power 1,500 homes.
The firm claims that the plant will generate enough clean energy to remove the carbon emissions produced by cars driven for 765 million miles over 20 years.
