Apple Plans iPhone Launch in Japan

Apple is in talks with Japanese telecommunications operators NTT DoCoMo and Softbank to launch the iPhone in Japan, the Wall Street Journal has reported.
Spokesman for NTT DoCoMo Shuichiro Ichikoshi confirmed the meeting between the company president Masao Nakamura and Apple's chief executive Steve Jobs.
However, both NTT and rival Softbank Mobile could take objection to Apple's demands for a share of subscriber revenues. Earlier this year, Apple had declared that it would launch iPhone in Asia in 2008.
As a part of its global go-to-market strategy, Apple signed exclusive contracts with service providers like AT&T in US, Deutsche Telekom in Germany, O2 in UK and Orange in France to sell the iPhone. Apple has sold over 1.4 million iPhone since its launch in June 2007.
Apple is also reported to be in talks with telecommunication service providers in other countries such as China Mobile in China and Korea Telecom Freetel in South Korea.
