Strike Looms
December 24, 2007
HOLIDAY MAKERS flying with Qantas this summer could have have their travel plans wrecked when 1700 maintenance engineers take industrial action from January 9. Observers warn the disruption to Australasian air travel could be the biggest since the 1989 pilots’ strike. Also affected will be Qantas’ low-cost offshoot Jetstar’s flights to Asia and Hawaii. The airline’s engineers will hold lightning four hour stoppages, making it impossible for flights to be cleared for takeoff without delays. Qantas has admitted the action could seriously affect flights by late next month.
