Osaka, Dec. 25 (Jiji Press)–Sumitomo Seika Chemicals Co. said Tuesday the Japanese fine chemicals maker will spend 1.5 billion yen to boost output of polymers used to make cosmetics and germ killers.

The company will double annual production to 2,000 tons of a water-soluble acrylic resin used as a thickener for cosmetics by building new facilities and revamping existing ones at its Himeji plant in Hyogo Prefecture, western Japan.

In addition, Sumitomo Seika will remodel production facilities at the Befu plant in the same prefecture to expand output of chloropyridine, a material for disinfectants. The production will be lifted to 1,500 tons, informed sources said.

Construction of those facilities will be completed in September 2008.

Last September, Sumitomo Seika already announced a plan to invest the same amount of money to expand production at the Befu plant of sulfur-containing pharmaceutical intermediates and a sulfur compound used for crystal liquid and semiconductors.END
