French energy major Total has announced the award of principal contracts for the Pazflor oil development on Block 17, deep offshore Angola.
Total said that the drilling operations are planned to commence in 2009 and the oil production is scheduled to start in 2011. Located about 150km off the coast of Angola at depths of 600 to 1200 meters, the development involves bringing the Perpetua, Hortensia, Zinia, and Acacia fields to production.
A floating processing, storage and offloading (FPSO) unit will process the oil through 49 subsea wells. The FPSO will have a processing capacity of 200,000 barrels of oil per day and can store 1.9 million barrels, bringing the installed production capacity on Block 17 to over 700,000 barrels per day.
The Pazflor development is expected to incorporate a number of technological advances in bringing difficult deep offshore fields into production, in particular seabed gas and liquid separation. It is the third development center on Block 17 after Girassol and Dalia.
Total E&P Angola, a wholly owned subsidiary of Total, is the operator of Block 17 with a 40% interest. It is partnered by StatoilHydro with a 23.33% stake, Esso Exploration Angola with 20% and BP Exploration with a 16.67% stake.
