EDF Energy to Start GBP1.4 Million Electricity Revamp Project in UK

EDF Energy has announced that it will start a GBP1.4 million electricity revamp project to ensure the continuity of a safe and reliable power supply in the Folkestone area in the county of Kent, UK.

The energy company and its contractor, Freedom Powerlines, will work around the Kent town to replace more than 28km of existing overhead lines to upgrade its network and increase the resilience of the lines to bad weather. The company said that January 7, 2008, will see the start of a five-month project refurbishing 11,000V overhead electricity lines in the Stanford area of Oxfordshire, UK.

The first work will take place along a 6km route in the Swan Lane area near Sellindge, Kent. In 2008 EDF Energy Networks plans to replace 171km of low-voltage overhead line at a cost of approximately GBP3.8 million.

Barry Hatton, EDF Energy Networks's director of capital program, said: "We are determined to provide an excellent and improving electricity distribution service to our customers in the Folkestone area and the rest of the southeast. The Stanford scheme is part of a wider program costing nearly GBP4million in the southeast."
