US-based semiconductor products manufacturer Fujitsu Microelectronics and system-on-chip solutions provider Sigma Designs have entered into a partnership to deliver wireless high-definition audio video solutions for consumer electronics manufacturers.
The companies said they will demonstrate their reference designs, which use the intelligent array radio (IAR) technology at the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas on January 7 2008.
The reference designs or wireless high-definition audio video (HDAV) can stream high-definition (HD) content between devices at distances up to 10 meters, the companies said.
Sigma Designs said that its HDAV streaming technology allows the transfer of HD multimedia through the ultra-wide band (UWB) and can be used to eliminate cables between set-top box and television. Fujitsu said that its HD-DVD player uses the HDAV technology, which supports both the H.264 format and UWB based on the WiMedia standard.
Hung Nguyen, vice president and general manager of the wireless products division at Sigma Designs said: "We are excited to work with Fujitsu and combine both companies' semiconductor, HD and wireless strengths to take cable A/V replacement a big step further for our mutual consumer electronics customers."
Davy Yoshida, director of business development at Fujitsu added: "Our Codec chip works seamlessly to offer mutual consumer electronics customers and system integrators the opportunity to develop products and systems that will deliver wireless, cable-free HDTV capabilities."
Last year, in CES 2007, Sigma Designs collaborated with Japanese electronics company Taiyo Yuden to demonstrate a WiMedia based wireless HDAV streaming solution.
