Jan. 9–The Dallas Black Dance Theatre created its Founder’s Luncheon to celebrate the vision of its founder and artistic director, Ann Williams, and to acknowledge community support.
At the 12th annual luncheon Friday at the Hilton Anatole, the dance theater will present Founder’s Awards for civic and business contributions to the Warrior Group (Gail and Wayne Lawrence), Texas Instruments Inc. and the Texas Instruments Foundation.
Proceeds for this annual fundraiser support operations of the Dallas Black Dance Theatre as well as community education and outreach programs.
Veronica and Dr. William Frazier are this year’s honorary chairmen, and Sandra and Joseph Malone are the general chairmen.
Citibank is the presenting sponsor of the luncheon at the $25,000 level.
“At Citi, we partner with nonprofit organizations that have the vision, determination and capacity to change things for the better in this community,” said Debbie Taylor, Citi’s Southwest regional director of community relations.
“The Dallas Black Dance Theatre is one of those great organizations, and we are proud to be supporting their tremendous work.”
Co-sponsors of the 2008 Founder’s Luncheon are Wells Fargo, Locke Lord Bissell & Liddell LLP, Guaranty Bank and the Hilton Anatole.
Live auction items include one-of-a-kind blown glass vases and bowls from Seapoot’s Studio Collection that will be displayed as centerpieces on each table.
Silent auction items include airline and sports tickets and hotel packages.

$25 million gift
Joe R. and Teresa Lozano Long of Austin have donated $25 million to the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, said Health Science Center president Dr. Francisco G. Cigarroa.
The cash gift matches the largest single gift in Health Science Center history and is one of the largest single gifts ever to the UT System.
The funds will establish permanent endowments for scholarships, faculty recruitment and retention, and research of diabetes and other diseases most affecting the people of South Texas.
The donation will be used to establish the Joe R. and Teresa Lozano Long Scholarship, Research and Teaching Fund.
Mr. Long received his undergraduate degree at UT Austin and his law degree from UT Law School. He practiced administrative law, primarily banking and savings and loan law, and was chairman and chief executive of First State Bank.
