Cash Minerals Appoints Dr. Michael Carew As Chief Geologist
Posted on: Friday, 11 January 2008, 18:00 CST
Cash Minerals Ltd. (TSX VENTURE: CHX) today announced the appointment of Dr. Michael Carew to the position of Chief Geologist. Dr. Carew will report to Basil Botha, President and Chief Executive Officer, and will assume this position immediately. In this role, Dr. Carew will be responsible for developing and managing exploration programs for the Company's uranium prospects in the Wernecke Uranium District, Yukon, the Central Mineral Belt, Labrador and British Columbia.
Dr. Carew joined Cash Minerals in March 2007 as Project Geologist and has been responsible for developing and executing exploration strategies for the Odie and Igor properties. Prior to joining Cash Minerals, he held the position of Exploration Geologist where he worked on copper-gold projects located in Australia and Mongolia. In this role, Dr. Carew analyzed datasets with the aim to generate drill targets for identifying iron-oxide copper-gold (IOCG) systems. Dr. Carew also served as consultant on the Ernest Henry mine, one of the world's largest copper-gold projects located in Australia.
"We are extremely pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Carew to the position of Chief Geologist," stated Basil Botha. "Dr. Carew has been instrumental in executing the exploration strategy for the Odie and Igor properties in 2007 and we look forward to continued exploration success as Cash Minerals move into the resource-definition stage at Igor in 2008."
"Dr. Carew will replace Dr. Geordie Mark, who recently left this role to pursue other opportunities and we would like to thank Dr. Mark for his contributions to Cash Minerals over the year. We wish him all the best in his future endeavors," commented Mr. Botha.
Dr. Carew holds a Bachelor of Science degree in economic geology from Monash University and a doctoral degree in geology from James Cook University, where he studied the controls on copper-gold mineralization and iron-oxide metasomatism in the Eastern Fold Belt, Australia. This work provided valuable insights into the geochemical characteristics that define the iron-oxide copper-gold class of deposit and generated critical geochemical tools for delineating potentially mineralized iron-rich systems from barren ironstones. Dr. Carew has contributed to a number of reports and peer-reviewed papers and co-presented several technical sessions and courses on IOCG systems.
ABOUT CASH MINERALS LTD.
Cash Minerals (www.cashminerals.com) is an emerging publicly listed energy company focused on uranium, coal and alternative fuels (synfuels). Under an agreement with Mega Uranium Ltd., Cash Minerals has the option to earn a 75% interest in uranium prospects located in various parts of the Yukon. These highly prospective prospects include numerous iron-oxide copper-gold (IOCG), structurally-controlled hydrothermal uranium targets.
The Company is also engaged in exploring and developing coal properties in southwest Yukon Territory. The Company's Division Mountain project has a measured resource of 52.5 million tonnes of high Volatile "B" Bituminous coal (refer to NI 43-101 report dated December 21, 2005), which occupies less than five percent of Cash Minerals' total coal leases in the Yukon. The potential exists to provide this coal as feedstock for a mine-mouth power station. Cash Minerals is also pursuing the development of a coal mine in China that would provide feedstock to an adjacent coal-to-liquids (CTL) plant, which would utilize the Fischer-Tropsch process to convert coal into clean-burning fuel.
