A U.S. government review has concluded a proposed wind farm off the coast of Massachusetts would have very little impact on wildlife and navigation.

The U.S. Minerals Management Service said the 130-turbine wind farm’s impact on wildlife, navigation and tourism would be negligible or minor, The Boston Globe reported Monday.

Cape Wind Associates needs the approval of the federal agency before it can go ahead with its plan for the first offshore wind farm in the United States.

The project is controversial among locals, some of whom believe the turbines would kill birds, harm tourism and ruin the aesthetics of the coastline.
