Alcatel to Open WiMAX Center in Taiwan

Alcatel-Lucent plans to open its WiMAX application and interoperability testing center in Taiwan for local customer premises equipment manufacturers, in association with the Ministry of Economic Affairs.

The Taiwan center will provide interoperability testing environment for local companies producing communications equipment for businesses and residences. The center also will leverage Alcatel-Lucent’s R&D expertise to help accelerate the development and introduction of a variety of multimedia applications in Taiwan.

Tony Chung, president of Alcatel-Lucent’s business in Taiwan, said: “WiMAX is a key element in the Taiwan government’s Mobile Taiwan (M-Taiwan) program. The M-Taiwan program is designed to foster the growth of wireless broadband communications across the island by bringing local government and private sector partners together to create the infrastructure for a robust wireless broadband service.”
