Naverus Congratulates Jetstar on Approval to Conduct RNP Operations

Posted on: Wednesday, 16 January 2008, 15:00 CST

SEATTLE, Jan. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- The Australian low-fare airline Jetstar recently received approval to conduct RNP operations. In late 2007 Jetstar submitted an application to the Civil Aviation Safety Authority of Australia outlining their RNP program and plans to conduct RNP 0.3 operations. With the approval Jetstar will progress to all-weather RNP capability during a phased implementation plan.

RNP operations will be conducted initially at the Gold Coast and Brisbane airports. As a participant in the Brisbane RNP trial, Jetstar will obtain fuel savings and the community will enjoy the environmental benefits of an added RNP user. The Brisbane trial is demonstrating how RNP users can be integrated into busy terminal operations where the majority of users are non-capable.

RNP (Required Navigation Performance) represents the most modern aircraft navigation technique. It utilizes GPS and sophisticated avionics to ensure that aircraft stay on precise, pre-programmed paths. In addition to providing navigation solutions for terrain challenged airports, RNP can be used to increase safety and operational efficiency while minimizing aircraft emissions and noise at any airport.
