Three children had to be checked out at a hospital Friday morning after the school bus they were riding in was involved in a crash near St. David.

The collision occurred just after 7 a.m. at a bus stop on Arizona 80 when an 18-year-old in a 1998 Mustang failed to stop and struck the bus from behind, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

Three of the five children on the bus – ranging from 6 to 9 years old – were examined at a hospital in Benson. The extent of their injuries was unknown late Friday.

The driver of the car, Juan Alvarado of Douglas, was cited on suspicion of failing to stop for a school bus and being a minor driving with alcohol in his body, the DPS said. He was not injured.
