Ukrainian, Azerbaijani President Discuss Energy in Davos

Davos, 24 January: Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev discussed bilateral cooperation, first of all in energy security, at their meeting in Davos today, Yushchenko’s press service said.

“The two presidents discussed opportunities for cooperation between Ukraine and Azerbaijan regarding the Odessa-Brody-Plock- Gdansk oil pipeline. They also discussed a project to create a single energy transit area which could include Azerbaijan, Georgia, Lithuania, Poland, Ukraine, Estonia, Latvia, Slovakia, Turkey, Romania and Bulgaria.”

The press service said that Aliyev confirmed that he would attend the energy summit scheduled to be held in Kiev in May 2008. Aliyev is also going to pay an official visit to Ukraine before the summit.
