A WEBSITE has been launched by Cardiff International Airport to promote its campaign to secure new international routes for the Welsh business community.

The airport has teamed up with the Western Mail to conduct new research into the destination needs of business.

At present, many business travellers must go to Heathrow, Gatwickandother airports in England for direct flights to destinations overseas.

Organisations supporting the campaign include the CBI, the Institute of Directors, Business In Focus, Swansea Futures, West Wales Chamber NGb2b and International Business Wales.

Airport officials say the findings from its YouWould If You Could campaign will be used when making its case for new routes with some of the world’s biggest airlines.

It is hoped the campaign will persuade airlines to add muchneeded routes from Cardiff, such as the financial centres of Germany at Frankfurt andDusseldorf, as well as cities in the UK where there are no connections.

Cardiff Airport head of communications Peter Phillips said, “This is verymuch a campaignwe are embracingwith others. It is not solely our campaign.

“Airlines require as much information as possible before they will make decisions on newflight routes.

“It has always been historically difficult for us to collect that informationwithout the support of the business community.

“The support this is giving us means that we will get real information and valuable information to airlines that they tell us they need.”
