Indonesian railway firm adds carriages for Lunar New Year

JAKARTA, Feb. 5 (Xinhua) — Indonesia’s state-run railway company KAI has increased the number of carriages in all regular trains to anticipate passenger surge ahead of the Lunar New Year, the company said Tuesday.

All economy and business trains will have nine carriages each from normally six to boost passenger capacity, KAI spokesman Achmad Sujadi said.

The policy applies until the weekend.

The company also operates an extra business train for the most crowded route between Jakarta and the Central Java town of Solo.

“By now we only have 10 percent left of tickets for all destinations,” Sujadi was quoted by leading news website Detikcomas saying.
