CXM Completes Another Major Capital Expansion

CICERO, Ill., Feb. 7 /PRNewswire/ — Chicago Extruded Metals Company (CXM) will complete a $2 million capital project to modernize casting and enhance material handling in mid-February.

This project follows closely on the recently completed $1.8 million improvement in extrusion and finishing capabilities and capacity.

“Chicago Extruded Metals Company is the sole U.S. mill focusing on markets that require near net shapes and small diameter rods and coil,” said CXM President Patrick Balson.

“Most of the brass industry was surprised by the recent withdrawal of Bolton’s Bellefonte, Pennsylvania plant from the brass market. This has caused concern for many near net extruded shape users.”

“Fortunately, CXM has continued to invest in state-of-the-art production equipment and tooling updates. We now have available capacity for even the most difficult shapes and small diameter rods.”

“The near net shapes minimize machining, material cost and increases yield from costly copper-based alloys. They can be supplied in either bar form or precision cut slugs,” concluded Balson.

Chicago Extruded Metals Company was originally established in 1923 and has developed unique processes for the manufacturing of even the most intricate engineered extruded brass shapes.

Included in the product offerings are rectangles and small diameter brass rods, which are offered in either standard or at Swiss precision tolerances. CXM products are supplied in numerous brass alloys, including Naval.
