“The Changing Transportation Network in North America” will be the topic for Arthur L. Shoener, president and CEO of the Kansas City Southern Railway Co., when he speaks at the University of Evansville’s Smythe Lecture Hall at 4 p.m. Wednesday.
“Mr. Shoener is a fourth-generation railroader. He has grown up in this industry and watched it change, so he has a unique perspective on business transportation opportunities on a global level. We’re very excited to hear what he has to say on the subject,” said Bob Clark, dean of the Schroeder Family School of Business Administration.
Shoener began his railroad career working summers for the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad in Garrett, Ind., while attending the University of Evansville. After graduation, he entered the Missouri Pacific Railroad management program and by the age of 26 he was the railroad’s superintendent.
He worked his way through the ranks as general manager, assistant vice president of service resources, and vice president of field operations – a position he held until 1997, when he opened a consulting firm in Indianapolis.
In 2005, he was named executive vice president and chief operating officer of Kansas City Southern, and president and chief executive officer of its subsidiary, the Kansas City Southern Railway Co.
Shoener has been a member of the University of Evansville board of trustees since 1996.
