Norwegian integrated oil major StatoilHydro and Indian hydrocarbon exploration firm Oil and Natural Gas Corporation have agreed to jointly explore the potential of developing carbon capture and storage and clean development mechanism projects in India.

The two companies have agreed to jointly screen possibilities for developing carbon capture and storage and clean development mechanism projects within Oil and Natural Gas Corporation’s (ONGC’s) operations in India.

StatoilHydro said that the co-operation could result in CO2 emissions reduction projects as well as the promotion of energy efficiency and growing use of renewable energy under the mechanisms of the Kyoto Protocol.
