Tough Rationing Leaves Most People in Tajik North Without Any Power

Khujand, 8 February: In view of a new limit of 2m kWh a day, introduced by Barq-i Tojik [Tajikistan's electricity supplier] on electricity supplies to the country’s northern region, electricity will be distributed only among vital facilities in Sughd Region, the first deputy governor of the region and head of the regional headquarters for energy supplies, Shakarbek Samadov, said yesterday at an emergency meeting involving all heads of the towns and districts of northern Tajikistan.

He said that electricity was being supplied to hospitals, psychiatric and neurological clinics, pumping and filling stations, the post office and other important facilities. The residents of most of the towns and districts in the region have not been supplied with electricity already for several days.
