China's Ministry of Information Industry predicts more than 60 million phone subscribers will be added in in the Asian nation this year.
Ministry officials said Friday that in 2008, the total number of mobile and fixed line subscribers will reach 976 million, China's official state-run news agency, Xinhua, reported.
The ongoing growth of cell phone subscribers in China has been credited to the declining cost of mobile phone services, along with some users choosing to switch from a fixed line to a mobile line.
Ministry statistics show China represents 20 percent of the world's total phone subscribers in 2007 with a total of 370 million fixed-line subscribers and 530 million cell-phone subscribers.
