US Firm to Invest 2.8bn Dollars in Pakistan Power Plant

Karachi [Sindh province], 11 February: Noted American company Global EnviroScience Technologies (California) will invest 2.8bn dollars to set up a 4000-MW power plant and another 150m dollars on a 100-mgd [millions of gallons per day] desalination plant in Karachi.
In this regard two MoUs [memoranda of understanding] were signed between city government, Karachi, and the company at a local hotel on Sunday night [10 February, local time].
MD [Managing Director], Water Board, Ghulam Arif Khan signed the agreement for desalination plant and EDO [Executive District Officer] (Enterprise and Investment Promotion) Dr Shahab Imam for power plant while the company was represented by its chairman, Martin Lawyers.
City Nazim [official] Mustafa Kamal, acting US Consul-General Ms Catherine, DCO [District Coordination Officer] Javed Hanif and other officials were also present on the occasion.
Under the agreement, the city government will provide 400 acres of land to the company for 4000-MW power plant and 50 acres for 100- mgd-capacity desalination plant in Korangi. In the first phase, the company will complete the plant for generation of 2000 MW of electricity.
