Blue Horizon Organic Showcases Shrimp Skillet Meals, Crunchy Shrimp Appetizers, and First-to-Market Organic Spring Rolls at Boston Seafood Show

Posted on: Thursday, 14 February 2008, 12:00 CST

Blue Horizon Organic will showcase its first-to-market branded line of Organic Spring Rolls and line of convenient, one-step Shrimp Skillet Meals and Crunchy Shrimp Appetizers at the International Boston Seafood Show, booth 2012, at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center Feb. 24-26.

Partners Tim Redmond and John Battendieri have founded and marketed front-running natural food brands since the 1970s. After championing such brands as Millina's Finest pastas and sauces, Santa Cruz Organics, VRUIT and Eden Foods, the two continued to help retailers develop their own organic and natural private label programs. Seafood was of mutual interest to both, and after sharing enthusiasm over the potential for clean-farmed shrimp, Blue Horizon Organic Seafood Company formed in late 2005 and set about introducing convenient, delicious, value-added meals made with clean and organic ingredients.

Already gaining momentum with conventional and natural-channel retailers throughout North America, Blue Horizon Organic has cast a wide net for its products.

"The response we've received so far is nothing short of phenomenal; clearly consumers want easy-to-prepare seafood of premium quality, and they want organic, value-added ingredients wherever possible," Blue Horizon Organic Chief Operating Officer Jaap Langenberg said. "Since introducing our Skillet Meals and Crunchy Shrimp Appetizers and now our branded Organic Spring Rolls, retailers are clearing freezer space and educating their customers about this smart, next generation of seafood."

The International Boston Seafood Show is North America's largest seafood exhibition, attracting close to 18,000 buyers and sellers worldwide. At the show, Blue Horizon Organic will showcase the products quickly finding their way to retail freezers: its Crunchy Shrimp Appetizers, its one-step Shrimp Skillets and its Organic Spring Rolls.

Blue Horizon Organic brand Shrimp Skillet Meals include Naturland-certified shrimp. These prepared meals for two, stovetop-ready in 10 minutes, come in four convenient varieties: creamy Shrimp and Penne Alfredo, Shrimp and Penne Alla Vodka in a rich organic tomato vodka sauce, Shrimp and Pesto Farfalle in a light organic garlic sauce and Shrimp and Scampi Rotini, in an organic garlic lemon herb sauce.

The company's successful Crunchy Shrimp Appetizers, made with clean-farmed shrimp, organic breading and organic ingredients, make the art of entertaining "naturally" delicious and easy. Choices include Garlic Shrimp, Panko Shrimp, Popcorn Shrimp, and Tempura Shrimp.

Whole Foods Market is already slated nationally to carry Blue Horizon's newest line addition, Blue Horizon Organic Spring Rolls, made with organic wrappers, spices, and vegetables, plus two of the varieties include its chemical-free, farm-raised Naturland shrimp. Varieties include Chinese-style Shrimp, Thai-style Shrimp, and two USDA certified organic vegetarian options, Indian-style Vegetable and Thai-style Vegetable. Eight spring rolls come in each box, sold at a suggested retail price of $4.99. All are MSG-free.

Blue Horizon Organic works under the premise that every consumer has the right to clean, safe, responsibly sourced seafood. The company only partners with third-party certified farms and wild fisheries which strictly comply with conservation policies. Its strict controls on aquaculture provide a model that includes using no growth hormones, antibiotics, tripolyphosphates, preservatives or artificial colorings, and it factors in water quality, a low density population, and organic feed. Blue Horizon was founded in 2005 to help protect the health and supply of aquatic ecosystems. Learn more at www.bluehorizonorganic.com.
