Plans for Replacement Wind Turbines Go on Show

Plans to re-power a wind farm in North Cornwall were shown to the public yesterday.

The renewable energy company, Good Energy, proposes replacing the existing ten turbines at Delabole Wind Farm with four far more powerful ones which would more than triple the output.

The current turbines each produce 400 kilowatts and are 50m high. The proposed replacement turbines would be 110m high and each have a power output of between two or 2.3 megawatts.

While 110m might seem large, there is a new generation of turbines which are 125m high.

The wind farm at Delabole, near Camelford, was established in 1991 and now seems to be an accepted part of the scenery by most local people.

One Delabole resident, Sally Holden, who visited the repowering consultation, said: “I quite like the wind farm now. It’s part of the scenery and I certainly don’t object to the plans for re- powering.

“However, if plans for the turbines at Davidstow Airfield go forward, I will object to those because it would be a most inappropriate location and would ruin the views of Rough Tor.

“I meet a lot of tourists through the course of my work and I rarely hear anyone object to the farm at Delabole, so I am more than happy to see this plan go through.”

The ten turbines produce enough power to meet all the electricity needs of 2,500 homes but this will jump to between 8,000 and 9,000 homes if North Cornwall District Council gives the go ahead to the scheme.
