Vietnamese, Russian Supreme Courts Pledge Closer Cooperation

A cooperative agreement between the Vietnamese People’s Supreme Court and the Russian Supreme Court has laid a firm foundation for the two sectors to further promote comprehensive cooperation.
So said by the state president, Nguyen Minh Triet, at a meeting with Russian High Court Chief Judge Lebedev Vyacheslav [Vyacheslav Lebedev] in Hanoi on 18 February.
President Triet affirmed that Vietnamese state and people have always attached great importance to strengthening friendship and comprehensive cooperation with the Russian Federation. Vietnam considers relations with Russia as a traditional and strategic partnership. On behalf of the Vietnamese state and people, Mr Triet thanked the Russian people for their support to Vietnam during the past war and the present national construction. Mr Triet emphasized that Vietnam is carrying out juridical reform, focusing on improving the courts’ performance and that the country needs support from Russia, especially its experiences.
Mr Vyacheslav [Lebedev] expressed his delight at the fine development of relations between the two countries, including the two juridical sectors. Signing the cooperative agreement between the two sectors will help foster traditional friendship relations between the two countries. Under the agreement, Russia will help Vietnam to train bar officials and judges as well as to renovate the court system.
