Vietnam Refugees for U.K.?
THE FOREIGN Office was today considering whether Britain should take in some the South Vietnamese refugees evacuated from Saigon before it fell to the Communists last week.
The Home Secretary, Mr. Roy Jenkins, M.P. for Stechford, was today considering how many Vietnamese refugees might be allowed to settle in Britain, if the Government decides to take any at all.
There is no question of setting up camps such as those which accommodated Asian immigrants. The figure for those from Vietnam would probably be around 1,000.
Mrs. Jill Knight (Con., Edgbaston) said: “I would want the Government to be sympathetic to refugees from a Communist state, but I fear from my knowledge and observation of this Government they would take no action.
“It makes me furious.”
