Power generation and energy delivery solutions provider GE Energy’s gasification technology has been selected for a coal-to-chemical production facility owned by the Guizhou Jinchi Chemical Company in the Tongzi County of China’s Guizhou province.

This agreement is GE Energy’s 32nd such licensing arrangement in China. The Guizhou Jinchi Chemical Company will use GE’s gasification technology to produce syngas, which in turn will be used to produce chemicals at the Tongzi project site.

Of the 32 projects in China that have been licensed for GE gasification technology since the mid-1970s, 23 are reportedly in commercial operation. More than 90% of the gasification equipment for these projects is fabricated locally in China.

John Lavelle, general manager of GE Energy’s gasification business, said: “Companies across China are looking for cost-effective ways to manufacture products from available local resources. We’re pleased that Guizhou Jinchi has selected GE’s proven gasification technology to produce chemicals from local coal.”
