Mobile Satellite Ventures Selects Axiom Systems for 4G Network Service Assembly
Posted on: Tuesday, 26 February 2008, 09:01 CST
Axiom Systems today announced that Mobile Satellite Ventures (MSV) has selected AXIOSS(R) and Active Catalog(TM) for the design, assembly and delivery of new services on MSV's next generation integrated satellite-terrestrial network.
MSV's next-generation hybrid satellite and cellular network will provide seamless, transparent, interoperable and ubiquitous wireless broadband services across North America through conventional handsets.
AXIOSS and Active Catalog are key elements of the Operational Support Systems/Business Support Systems (OSS/BSS) MSV is developing.
MSV is a leading supplier of mobile satellite communications services delivering mobile wireless voice and data services primarily for public safety, security, fleet management and asset tracking throughout the U.S. and Canada. In addition, MSV holds the first FCC license to provide hybrid satellite-terrestrial services. The company plans to launch two satellites for coverage of the United States and Canada, which are expected to be among the largest and most powerful commercial satellites ever built.
"MSV is at the forefront of satellite and cellular convergence and our next-generation hybrid satellite/terrestrial network will deliver a range of cutting-edge services to end-users," said Drew Caplan, Chief Network Officer of MSV. "Axiom Systems solutions will provide the dynamism and flexibility that will be integral to MSV's ability to provide and manage these innovative and diverse sets of converged services."
Axiom Systems' AXIOSS is a comprehensive service fulfillment platform that relies heavily on the concept of reusable components to enable a rapid and efficient approach to service design and build. Active Catalog extends this componentized approach and decoupling product lifecycle management processes from OSS, BSS and network engineering. This enables service bundles to be defined and commercial offerings created from robust, tested and reusable building blocks, dramatically increasing the speed and efficiency with which highly customizable services can be created and launched.
"Axiom Systems' work with MSV involves service assembly on an all-IP 4G network, which is particularly important in the North American market," said Gareth Senior, CEO of Axiom Systems. "The rapid creation and delivery of diverse new services over converged 4G networks is exactly the type of complex next generation network environment perfectly suited to AXIOSS and Active Catalog."
Active Catalog was a central part of the Product & Service Assembly (PSA) Initiative, a TeleManagement Forum (TMF) catalyst project that was judged Best Catalyst Project 2007 by the TMF. The PSA successfully demonstrated a reference architecture that allows innovative telecom products to be created extremely quickly and cost-effectively with little or no impact on customer or network facing systems.
