AKRON, Ohio, Feb. 26 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- FirstEnergy Corp. has announced that FirstEnergy Solutions Corp. (FES), its competitive subsidiary, is providing the 12th Annual Ohio Energy Management & Restructuring Conference with SmartWind(TM) Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) as the source of their electric generation for the conference.

The conference will focus on energy industry developments, including Ohio's proposed electricity restructuring plan and will be held from February 26 to February 27, 2008, in Columbus, Ohio.

SmartWind is FirstEnergy Solutions' wind-energy product that enables customers to purchase RECs produced from wind farms in western Pennsylvania that are under contract to sell electricity to FES. The purchase of RECs supports wind technology and helps sustain a market for the environmental benefits of renewable power generation.

"FirstEnergy Solutions is proud to provide the Ohio Energy Management & Restructuring Conference with wind power certificates equal to 100 percent of the event's electricity needs," says Arthur Yuan, vice president of Sales and Marketing for FES. "The SmartWind program is an extension of our commitment to provide electricity in an environmentally responsible manner."
